Animation film director and writer Brad Bird appeared at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA last night. I had the privelege of speaking with him for a few moments and took a photo and got him to autograph my DVD's of "The Incredibles" and "The Iron Giant". He said what I have said all along that story
is much more important than special effects in that he has seen some beautifully animated films with no story and some poorly animated films with a great story and would choose a great story over a lousy one anytime regardless of how a film
looks.
He said that "The Iron Giant" could have been at least half as successful as "The Incredibles" if they put a good marketing push behind it, and that now it is discovering a new life on home video. I wish they would re-release it to theaters. It's certainly better than half the garbage out right now.
I snapped the two photos last night as Brad was signing. Click on the pictures for a larger image.
