It's really interesting to watch the first season of "Saturday Night Live" and watch it evolve. It really didn't have the format as we know today until the fourth episode. I guess they were experimenting. In fact, on show 2 with Paul Simon, the Not Ready for Prime Time Players barely appear.
When they do appear, true magic happens as there is rarely if ever a bum skit in the bunch. This was back in the days when timing was king and except for a lengthy film by Albert Brooks about a heart operation, many times a skit was under 30 seconds. Unheard of by today's SNL standards where length and repetition seem to be key.
I'll report more later.
